Identifying bright students from economically disadvantaged families and assist them with college, examination fees to persue higher education. 

 

Identifying the Students - A Unique Process.

 

  • Vidya Poshak invites students to apply through press, radio, schools, colleges and volunteers.

  • Students who apply, take Nurture Merit Test (NMT) conducted at centres across the region of Karnataka in India.

  • Volunteers visit houses of the short listed students in NMT for need assessment.

  • Based on the Merit and Need, Vidya Poshak finalizes the list of deserving students and distributes the scholarship.

  • A detailed document of selected students along with a photograph of the student's home is prepared and sent to the respective donor.

  • The students communicate periodically with the donors on their academic progress. 

 

 

  • 20,818 applicants; 4,200 housevisits were made covering 23 districts in Karnataka and 3 districts in Maharashtra in India.

 

  • Visited 3,900 villages/small towns travelling around 30,000Kms.

    •

16,220 students appeared for the written test in Karnataka alone.

 

  • Thanks to 712 senior and student volunteers who did all this.

 

  • The volunteers covered more than 3900 villages for students dwelling unit visits to assess the need.

 

  • Nurture Merit test was conducted in 33 centres as opposed to 26 centres last year.

 

  • Volunteers reached to 12,000 students.
